School Disciplinary Action:

Violation of the schools behavioral guidelines may have the following consequences:

  • A student may receive a warning from a teacher.
  • A student may receive restricted time. i.e. classroom, recess of playtime at lunch.
  • A student may receive a written assignment about the infraction.
  • Parental contact may be made by the teacher or the principal.  The breaking of any rule can involve parental conference if deemed serious enough.

Detention:
A student may receive detention, to be served before or after school.  Parents will receive notice at least one (1) day in advance of the day that detention is to be served so that transportation of the student can be arranged.  A detention slip will be sent home with the reason for, the time and length and the date of the assigned detention.  This slip must be signed by the parents and returned to school.  Repeat detentions will result in further consequences.

A parent conference may be required, with possible extended detention (two or more days as deemed appropriate) and/or probation/and or suspension, or expulsion.

Step Program:
In grades 6-8th, student discipline will be monitored through an assertive discipline Step Program.  Disciplinary infractions will be handled as indicated in a written description of the program which will be distributed to parents for their signature and distributed and explained to the student. The junior high teachers will periodically review and revise the Step system to make it more effective and just such changes will be publicized clearly in advance to the student before being put into effect.

Probation:
A student is placed on probationary status with conditions that must be abided by for a defined period of time, in order to be taken off probation.  Any further discipline violation or violations of conditions can result in further probation, and/or suspension, or expulsion.

Suspension:
A student may attend class but loses the right to participate in any/certain school activities.  The student may be suspended from the classroom and be required to report to a specific place on campus each day, or the student may be sent home for the entire period of suspension, with academic work assigned to make up the loss of class time.  At times, misbehavior is so serious that the student will receive an immediate suspension (emergency suspension) or may be cause for expulsion.  In such cases, Diocesan guidelines will be followed.

Expulsion:
A student may be expelled from school for misconduct of a very serious nature calling for immediate dismissal without suspension, or for excessive violations of the discipline policy.  IF a student is expelled, the parent or guardian may appeal to the Superintendent of Schools in writing within seventy-two (72) hours by registered mail.

Parents/Guardian/Family Behavior:
Parents/guardian/family member actions which negatively impact the school community may be cause for the student’s expulsion.  Such actions include, but are not limited to the following:  actions which draw negative publicity to the school community, hostile or scandalous behavior or actions which have the potential of effect of destroying the school.
